Failure Analysis-Q4

Generally, two types of fracture failure (ductile and brittle fracture) are based on the ability of a material to experience plastic deformation.

In term of plastic deformation, explain the characteristics ductile and brittle fracture.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A ductile fracture surface has a dull , fibrous appearance and often resembles a “cup-and cone” configuration.

A brittle fracture surface typically appears shiny with flat facets which are created during cleavage fracture.
